Giveaway Winner and Me-Made-May Reflection

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

My pledge was to wear three outfits a week in May.   I got shy about daily pictures and certainly felt super self-conscience posting the pictures daily.   I ended up Instagraming a few.... I did well the first half of the month but by the middle, I was unmotivated to snap photos.  It was also becoming harder to convince my son to take a picture of me.  Even though I did wear 3 garments a week in May, I failed to document.  There is always next year :)

What I did learn was that I need more me-made basics.  Basics like cardigans,  shirts/blouses, under-garments, etc...  This seals the deal that I will have to tackle my nemesis: pants!   My last encounter with pants was a 3 muslin disaster with only yoga pants to show for it.  I have got to muster up the courage to attempt it again.  I also want to revisit patterns that I love -- remake the garment and make it better (with construction wise or creative wise).  Gulp -- this is tall order before next May.  I spent the weekend organizing - no sewing but organizing patterns, fabrics, notions, and so forth - in hopes of preparing to carry out:
My "Rest-of-the-Year-Pledge":

For every dress (which I adore wearing and making), I must also make a staple to either go with the dress or supplement the wardrobe.

  3. Your mmm clothes are great. May I suggest trying a Simplicity Pants That Fit pattern as a start for your pants adventures? I own 3 and they are wonderful not only in the drafting but they contain excellent instructions for obtaining a good fit.

  4. I'll cheer you one this journey...

Like you, I find it difficult to post daily pictures - I feel very selfconscious - I don't with my sewing posts (even when I am a mess) because that is about sewing. I'm going to try and do Me Made next year as well - and like you, I will need a lot more basics. I think it will take a few years to get a great wear every day wardrobe of me made clothes. Pants, just one step at a time, make a muslin and that way you will get the feel before you make them up in "real"fabric. And if you muck up, it's not the end of the world, it's just a bit of fabric, and you will learn something at the same time.

    1. I agree with the sewing posts -- I am not shy because I am proud of what I just made and it is about the sewing. I just feel funny having weekly post with pictures of me.
